The reigning 2007 State Champion finds himself shuffling up against last week's "Boat Qualifier" winner. Both players are 2-1 and playing to avoid their back breaking second loss. Although there are some whispers that a 6-2 can make it in, neither player is in the mood to find out if that's true.
Shaun: "Why am I being picked for a feature match?"
Rob: truly epic lulz

Shaun rolls 8, and Rob loses with a 5. Shaun chooses to be on the play.
Both keep their opening 7, and they are off. Shaun leads out with a Brushland and plays the ever popular Figure of Destiny. Rob lays a mountain and answers with his own Figure of Destiny.
Shaun's Figure surges into the red zone, Rob declines to block, Shaun pumps the Kithkin to a 2/2, laying a Jungle Shrine before passing the turn. Rob swings back with his own Figure, pumps to 2/2, lays his own CIP land in the form of Ghitu Encampment, and passes the turn.
Shaun lays a Mutavault and send the Figure in again. Rob lays a mountain, and casts a Boggart Ram Gang, and swings with the team.
Shaun lays mutavault #2 and attacks with Figure, followed up by an Ajani Vengeant that promptly shoots Rob's Ram Gang. Rob draws, attacks with the 2/2 Figure killing Ajani, and taps out to play Spiteful Visions.
Shaun has to stop to read the card. He thinks a little bit, and then goes back to read it again. "This could be bad for me". It has clearly halted his game plan and he goes in the tank. Eventually he attacks with Figure, lays Ajani #2, shoots Rob's Figure and passes the turn. Rob draws, plays a Ghitu Encampment and passes the turn.
The hands are filling up for both players off the Spiteful Visions and the damage is adding up. Shaun sifts his cards in his hand back to front while thinking about his next play. He attacks with his 2/2 figure, Rob responds with a Puncture Blast. Shaun taking a long time with trying to make the next move eventually decides to play a Kitchen Finks and passes. Shaun misses land drop here, and Rob knows it. Rob draws his 2 with Visions, lays mountain, and passes.
Shaun draws two and takes the pain. Rob begins to stock pile burn in his hand while paying close attention to Shaun's life total. Shaun takes a while to consider his options and passes the turn. Rob responds to EOT with Flame Jav and Incinerate putting Shaun at five. Rob draws 2 cards. He thinks it though and decides to run out a second Spiteful Visions. This is a really curious move, as Shaun is at only 5 with the sky completely open. Shaun untaps and casts Incinerate on Rob during upkeep for the win. Rob has to be kicking himself for not just casting the Demigod in his hand for the win instead of playing the Visions.
This man's got a ticket on the Boat!
Both players keep their hand. Rob leads out with a mountain and passes, Shaun lays a Brushland and taps it for Birds of Paradise. Rob then plays his second mountain while tapping out to play Stigma Lasher. Shaun finds a Wooded Bastion, and taps out for a Bloom Tender and Birds of Paradise #2.
Rob plays his third Mountain and runs the Boggart Ram Gang into the Red Zone and swings with the team. Shaun blocks the Stigma Lasher with a Bird. Shaun plays Brushland #2 and plays Figure and Ajani, promptly shooting Stigma Lasher.
Rob attacks Ajani with Ram Gang, finding a blocker with Shaun's Figure of Destiny. Rob lays Ghitu Encampment, plays Countryside Crusher and then passes. Shaun taps his Bloom Tender and a land for a Chameleon Colossus and Bloom Tender #2 before passing the turn.
Rob dumps two land in his graveyard from Crusher to make it a fat 5/5. Both Ram Gang and the Crusher get in there, Shaun blocks crusher with a BOP. Rob then elects to Puncture Blast Shaun, redirecting it to Ajani to make the planeswalker go away. Shaun untaps and takes another moment to decide what his next move is. With two Bloom Tenders, a Chameleon Colossus, and 3 land in play, Shaun taps both tenders and his land to play a Primal Command to search for a creature and gain 7 life. He finds a Figure of Destiny and passes the turn to Rob.
Rob untaps, and sends yet another land into the yard from the Crusher making him a 6/6. Rob sends both the Ram Gang and Crusher into the red zone finding a blocker for the Ram Gang with Chameleon Colossus. Shaun attacks with 1/1 colossus, playing a Figure of Destiny, then tapping both bloom tenders for two Wooly Thoctars.
Rob casts an EOT Incinerate pointed at Shaun, plays a Ram Gang and passes. Shaun plays a Kitchen Finks and passes.
Rob attacks with ram gang, Shaun takes it, while Rob runs out another Ram Gang.
Shaun draws, smirks, and passes. Rob, smelling blood in the water, draws and brings both of his Ram Gangs. Shaun blocks one with a Finks and the other with a 1/1 withered Chameleon Colossus, attempts to double activate the green machine with the bloom tenders, finding only a Puncture Blast to finish it off.
Shaun draws, looks a bit disappointed, and says go. Crusher ramps up to a beefy 8/8 on Rob's upkeep. Rob brings the team again, followed by a Mogg Fanatic and a Stigma Lasher joining the board. Shaun clearly on his back heel, scoops after a decisive blow on Rob's next attack.
Defending Champ, stayin' alive, stayin' alive
With not a whole lot of time left in the round, both players race back to their sideboards quickly and furiously followed by fast shuffling. Shaun on the play, Rob on the draw. Rob keeps his hand, while Shaun slumps a little bit going down to six cards.
Shaun leads out with a Karplusan Forest, and taps it for a Bird of Paradise. Rob lays a mountain and casts a Mogg Fanatic. Rob rolls his eyes while sacking the Fanatic to kill the BOP as if to indicate that although it's still the right play, it's not really what he'd ideally want to do with it. Shaun plays his second Brushland, and casts Bloom Tender. Rob lays mountain and passes the turn.
Shaun lays a Treetop Village, and casts a Kitchen Finks. Rob plays land and casts a hasty Boggart Ram gang that stays home. Shaun plays another treetop, attacks with an activated Treetop and the Finks. Rob blocks the treetop with his ram gang and takes the pain from the Finks.
Rob sensing Shaun's next play, lays another land and passes the turn. On queue, Shaun attacks with finks and a treetop, resulting in an Incinerate from Rob to kill the manland. Rob casts Demigod swings for the fences. Shaun brings the Finks and Tender into the zone and connects!
Rob thinks hard on his turn. He pays his second Demigod, attacks, and out of nowhere Shaun takes a pain from a brushland and Condemns one Demigod. Shaun swings with his team on the next turn, and then proceeds to scoop it up with no answer to Demigod the next turn.
Rob's fight to retain the title is still alive! When asked about the Demigod/Spiteful
Visions decision at the end of game 1, he looked around embarrassed and asked if I had
seen his hand. Admittedly he had hoped no one had seen this little punt…
