Coverage team was still playing, so all we know is Kyle took it 2-0;
the first "assassination" of a former Champ!
Alex and Kyle sit down and joke about who's better at Magic.
Alex — "It's a match of someone who used to be good at Magic
(referring to himself) vs. someone who IS good at Magic (referring to Kyle)".
Kyle: truly epic lulz
Both players roll it up, Kyle scores a six, Alex scores an 8. Alex likes his opener, Kyle goes down to six on the draw.
Alex leads with a first turn Figure of Destiny while Kyle smirks and offers a Vivid Crag. Alex then lays a land, activates his Figure on his main phase, plays an Akrasan Squire, then sends the 2/2 Figure in for an exalted three. Kyle lays a Primal Beyond and plays Smokebraider.
Alex frowns. "I think I have to kill this guy right now, sadly." Alex proceeds to main phase incinerate the smokebraider, then lays a land and attacks for 3 with his exalted Figure again. Kyle answers by laying a land and casting Incandescent Soulstoke.
Alex pokes Kyle with his Figure of Destiny again, lays his fourth land and resolves Ajani Vengeant. Deciding to keep with the idea of Kyle not having any non land permanents in play, he then removes two loyalty counters to use Ajani's "lightning helix" ability on Kyle's Soulstoke.
Kyle then draws his card, evokes a mulldrifter, lays a land, sighs, and then passes the turn. Alex adds a loyalty counter on Ajani to freeze Kyle's tapped Primal Beyond, pumps his Figure to a 4/4, and attacks with the team.
Kyle evokes a Shreikmaw killing the 4/4 Figure while leaving a mountain and a Mutavault open. Alex untaps and then goes in the tank. He then declares an attack with the lone Squire. Kyle activates his mutavault and they trade. Alex freezes Kyle's Primal Beyond again with Ajani, and proceeds to casts a Stillmoon Cavalier.
Kyle draws, looks at his hand, and scoops.
Alex reflects while sifting through his 15…"what am I really scared of?". Kyle looks puzzled as if he can't decide if that were meant as a legitimate query or a brash insult. Alex leans over and shows a sad 0-2 dropped Jeremiah Wilson the "hottest SB card ever": - Lash Out. Alex then recalls that at one point he thought that Ajani only did 2 damage and gained 2 life. Kyle replies "Wow, that seems really good for me".
Alex ships it back and goes to six on the draw. He looks at the first three cards and keeps without looking at his other three inspiring a giggle out of Kyle. Kyle keeps his seven on the play. Kyle leads with Reflecting Pool and passes. Alex lays a plains and passes the turn---"Sadly, no one drop".
Kyle lays a swamp and passes. Alex lays Battlefield forge, and casts Sigiled Paladin. Kyle plays an EOT Nameless Inversion waxing the pally.
Kyle lays a mountain, Casts Flamekin Harbinger, and searches up a Smokebraider to draw. Alex untaps, and asks how many cards are in Kyle's hand, and he holds up 5.
"How many of those 5 cards are Mulldrifters?"
"All five."
Alex plays a mutavault and ships the turn. Kyle sends the Harbinger into the red zone, only to be greeted by Alex's activated mutavault for the block. Kyle responds before damage was applied by casting Nameless Inversion #2. Kyle lays Pool #2, casts his Smokebraider, and passes it over to Alex. Alex then enjoys an EOT Lash out to blast the Smokebraider.
Smith plops his fourth land, runs out Ranger of Eos, and proceeds to dig up two Figure of Destiny.
Quips Alex - "He's like a slightly better mulldrifter that doesn't fly."
Kyle lays a forest and passes the turn. Alex draws - attacks with Ranger, Kyle takes the pain. Second main, Smith runs out a Knight of the White Orchid fetching him a Plains, plays the Plains, and casts one of the Figures in his hand. The crowd begins to gather.
Kyle plays an EOT Makeshift Mannequin in an attempt to bring back his Smokebraider. Alex allows it to resolve, and then targets the elemental with an incinerate. Kyle lays mountain and ships the turn. EOT Alex pumps his Figure. Alex brings the team. With no blocks, Smith activates Figure to a 4/4, while Kyle casts Flame Javelin in response. Alex plays his second Figure from hand.
Alex enjoys his board advantage
Things are getting ugly for Kyle. He lays land and passes. Alex EOT activates his Figure or Destiny. Alex comes with his team, while Kyle throws a second Flame Javelin at Alex's Figure. Kyle draws again and passes the turn. Alex brings yet another assault, leaving Kyle at 3.
