"Change does not change tradition. It strengthens it. Change is a challenge and an opportunity, not a threat." - Prince Phillip of England
Every time a new Magic Core "edition" drew closer to it's release, I've often wished for the powers at Wizards R&D to do something a bit daring. For better or worse, just kick it up a notch and surprise us. And up through Tenth Edition, I had always felt a little disappointed when I would look through that final list of cards. They would reprint the usual suspects like Hill Giant and Wind Drake, as well as the tournament staples like Birds of Paradise and Wrath of God. Any changes that were made to the core sets were always barely noticeable (ex - like Pithing Needle in 10th. That was sort of exciting, right?). I had given up on the notion that the core sets were going to be anything other than a "necessary" bunch of cards used as the floor boards for our deck designs.
Shame on me for giving up.
Enter M10: the latest set of Core cards that promises to spice things up a bit as well as change the way we play Magic today. Unlike previous Core sets, M10 offers a more condensed and powerful mix of cards ranging from cool never before seen cards to old trusted favorites. And wouldn't you know it; the M10 pre-release is just around the corner!
This brings us to...
10. For those new to Magic and those who play casually, this weekend is going to be a very fun way to learn how the game works as well as improve your game.
9. For those seasoned tournament veterans, this weekend gives us the opportunity to play with the new set while obtaining the brand new "must have" cards for your decks (new Duals!!!)
8. So you can have all of your 'Runed Halo's' and 'Shriekmaw's' signed and altered by the one and only Steve Prescott (and he's got other cool art too!).
7. So that you can have all of your 'Djinn of Wishes' signed and altered by the one and only Immortal Djinn!!!! (nice....)
6. Get advice and play against local Pro and Gunslinger Conley Woods! Conley recently notched a Top 4 finish in Pro Tour Honolulu as well as co-hosts the ever popular Monday Night Magic on MTGCast.com. He'll be sporting an M10 Sealed Deck, a couple of Standard decks, and of course, an Elder Dragon Highlander deck! Beat him in a game of Magic and he'll cough up a shiny new pack of M10!!!
5. The M10 Pre-release will be a great way for everyone to learn the new rules that M10 brings with it! For those that want the scoop and would like to read more on how the new rules work, go *here*
4. Grab a friend and play in the M10 Two Headed Giant Event! Here you will *really* get to learn how the new attacking and blocking rules work! And for you Two Headed Giant specialists, Conley may already have someone lined up to take his side at the gun slinging table to take on all of those aspiring duos.....I can't imagine who that might be? :-) And if you can beat those two guys, Conley's 2HG partner may just throw in a little extra somethin' somethin'....
3. If you are in need a little cash and you have cards you'd like to sell, or maybe you're interested in picking up some singles, Jeff and Heather from Enchanted Grounds will have a booth set up to take good care of you. Be sure to ask them to tell you about "M10 24" (that's going to be all kinds of wicked).
2. Because you could have a legitimate chance of casting Polymorph into a Darksteel Colossus. If that actually happens, stop the match, call over Scott Marshall to show what had just happened, and I'll betchya he'll kick you a pack of M10 for that awesome achievement.
1. And the number one reason is pretty obvious: because Pre-release weekends are too much fun. It's going to be a blast, and this Djinn is definitely looking forward to it! Check out all the details below!
